Marc Rayner Australian, 1959

"It’s very difficult to be an Australian artist and not be influenced by the vast and diverse works by the Aboriginal peoples that first inhabited that land."
Marc Rayner: "My direction however is primarily influenced by the neo-expressionist movement, which of course is also heavily influenced by various indigenous cultures, naive art, children's art, and general stripping down of classical art themes, gestures and ideas. In this direction, I find a beautiful symmetry with and belonging to Neolithic and tribal art forms.

My visual cues arrive at any time and from anywhere. I have been known to wake up in the middle of the night and start painting as I'm sure many artists do. The Neoexpressionist genre also accurately reflects the distorted paradigm in which we live."

Rayner currently lives and works in central Sweden.
