April 27, 2013 saw the opening of an exhibition featuring three prominent artists - Sculptor Anne Huibregtse, Printmaker Robert Lenz and Painter Carroll Macdonald.
Sculptor Anne Huibregtse
Sculptor Anne Huibregtse is renowned for her bronze bovines. Asked by an interviewer for Southwest Art magazine, "Why cows?" she replied, "Why not cows?" Cows have held her attention since she began sculpting, and they have remained both a challenge and a joy to sculpt, she says. Huibregtse is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and has worked for sculptor John Doubleday at his foundry in England. Her lyrical sense of humor allows her work to simultaneously function both as comment and commentary on how we perceive form - bovine or not.
Painter and Printmaker Robert Lenz
Robert Lenz exhibited still-life and landscape paintings throughout the Chicago area during the late 50s and 60s. After a successful 25-year career as an advertising agency creative director, he moved to Litchfield County to resume painting both inside and outside of his South Kent studio. These monotypes display a confident immediacy that brings the textural language of these bucolic landscapes to life.
American Landscape Painter Carroll Macdonald
Carroll Macdonald's paintings reveal an awareness of historical landscape and still-life painting, with a passionate grasp of the dramatic possibilities of color and form. The New York Times critic Vivien Raynor wrote, "Her pictures have a certain grandeur. Macdonald wades in boldly, laying on pigments with a sure hand". In this new series of paintings, executed on paper and panel, Macdonald brings a luminous narrative of interconnectivity to her oeuvre. She has exhibited at the Century Club of New York, the National Arts Club, National Academy of Design, Westport Art Center and the Arts Students League of New York. Her paintings hang in numerous private, public and corporate collections.
