New abstract, naturally sourced paintings by Judith Kruger and bold ceramic sculpture by Paul Chaleff were featured in a dramatic exhibition at Kent, Connecticut's Morrison Gallery that began with an opening on March 16, 2013 and ran through the 21st of April.
Judith Kruger’s works in this show were paintings created from 2008-2013 in her Litchfield, CT studio that she views as an “eco lab” allowing her to connect and respond to the environment by digging, grinding, boiling, mixing, concocting, scraping, printing and layering. She makes her own pigments from globally sourced organic and inorganic materials. These alchemic abstractions function not only as vibrant, spatial compositions; they become a tactile record of self-discovery.
Chaleff is known for the colossal scale of his ceramic sculpture and vessels and he is recognized as a leader in the resurgence of wood firing in America. His works are in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Renwick Gallery, the Museum of American Art and other museum collections across the United States. Chaleff works at his studio in Ancram, NY.
